I recently purchased and installed a pair of aftermarket halogen projector/LED headlights for my 2002 4 door. I have been having quite a problem with getting the wiring correct. The harness is provided with them- and in the low beam function they work fine. The LEDs did need to be pigtailed to a connector spliced to the headlights- there was just raw wire ends with them. I was having a problem with the high beams, though. When I would toggle the lights to highs, the projectors would turn off leaving just the inner pair of halogens on. I found a workaround to keep the projectors with the high beams by using the parking light wiring- I found this on the manufacturers' online tech site. So now the high and low beams work great but the string of LEDs along the bottom of the assemblies are blinking in a fairly rapid fashion. My only guess is not sufficient current in the circuit? I appreciate any suggestions.

 

put a diode in-line on the LEDs... you might be getting back-feed of current causing that blinking, not very good for the electrical system so do it soon.

I'm not sure what the draw is, so you will have to measure the amperage in order to size the diode correctly. Don't forget to heat shrink and electrical tape it once you solder it into the circuit.

I would have just wired a diode into the low-beams and then after it ran a relay with the highbeam 12V circuit as the relay trigger and use the battery as the power source.

That would have been much more reliable than tapping into the parking lights to run the highs and lows at the same time.

Also keep in mind that those aftermarket lights aren't designed to withstand the heat from both lights being turned on at the same time so you might start to see discoloration of the lenses.

Thanks for the info! The LEDs did come with in line resistors installed but no diode protection from reverse current. I hadn't thought of that until you suggested it and its working fine now. My original headlight lenses got so glazed that I couldn't get them clear- so I replaced them with these Spec D. I figure I will use them for awhile and see how they work out- like you said they may start discoloring quickly anyway. I wouldn't mind some xenon lights though. Need do some more research to see what whats available for my
truck. Glad I found this forum- I will be visiting regularly!

Like every one said we would love to see pics. And i was going to add if that didnt work to try to run the leds/halo ring postitive wire to a fuse or relay you wouldnt experince any problem

 

eh they are just LEDs a relay is kinda of overkill for them... a diode should work perfect...
