Default 4WD Lock Problem...SOLVED!

Thanks to those that helped me on the forum. Problem was 4wd or 4wd low lights coming on & 4wd trying to engage while driving, or FAD actuating intermittent, driving or not. Looking at the TSB, I thought this was the problem. Changed the FAD and no fix. Dodge dealer did a flash for the software and no fix. Went to a transmission place today and talked to the owner. (Friend of a friend). Explaining the problem to him helped explain it to me again! Remember I said I had just changed the plugs prior to the problem happening? He was not as familiar with Dodge trucks, but said some connections are on the firewall location on other trucks. I thought it was to big a coincidence of when this problem started. Before dumping more money, I finally took it upon myself to look at everything in the area of the work I had done. I've been wrapped up in deer season and didn't really want to mess with it. Cost factor finally over rode my deer huntin! As soon as I started removing the air filter housing, the FAD actuator started operating. I found the wiring harness support on the passenger side rear valve cover bolt had come off, and the wire harness had rubbed into the valve cover bolt. I don't know if I knocked the support off, or it was already off and I pushed the harness down against the bolt. Either way, the harness has 4 wires exposed from rubbing the bolt. The wires were contacting the bolt off and on. I hate to think what this would have cost for the dealer to troubleshoot. So much more they would have checked before getting to this point. Anyway, it so happens I work in an electronic repair shop that also does wire harness repair and manufacturing. All will be fixed tomorrow, and done correctly. No worry about further corrosion on the wiring.
Just something for all to watch out for when doing their routine maintenance. Something I should have caught when under the hood the first time.

Unfortunately, it's rare for someone to post after they fix their problem. I'm glad you took the time to let us know what it was.

I will also say, I currently have a used Front Axle Disconnect Actuator with 39,500 miles on it I would sell very reasonably priced, should someone need it. Part# 52114387AE I think $40.00 plus actual shipping is reasonable. If not haggle with me.

Glad to hear that problem got solved! Take a picture of the harness you're talking about & post it up on this thread and your original thread, in-case anyone is having the same problem...
