If he doesn't have the towing package the one you are likely talking about won't be there without the kit mentioned previously...

That kit will plug into a few things under the dash (gotta dig to find them) and then the wires go out from there to different placed.

I've never done one of these myself, but It can't be that hard..

I'm removing an older controller and installing a new P3. I cannot get the balsted plug apart. How do I release the lock?

 

Just because you found the plug doesn't mean that it is wired all the way to the back of your truck. If you didnt get the tow package plugging your trailer brake controller into that factory plug will not work without having some additional wiring done. Found that out the hard way on my truck.

 

I bought the $46 oem factory harness connector for the brake controller only to find that every wire in the connector was installed in the wrong terminal pin location. Good thing I checked it or it would have destroyed my brake controller.
