4:56 Motive gears.
The gears where done in my 03 in 2007. Heavy rust was found in mine as well. It was decided to pull the entire axle housing and have it boiled out. I pulled the axles out last year to replace the seals. The rust is back. Boiling will buy you some time. But if it's like mine the rust will come back. My advice is if your going to spend the $$$ get another axle housing.
Just a thought, good to know someone else had the same idea and the unfortunate results.

Yeah. Been on the rock auto site and it has a full kit of axle axle bearings and seals bud.
For £340 I can get them over here.
But then I have to pay import duty.
Sigh lol.
The trials of owning something different over here in the UK.

I was going to pull the housing and get it acid dipped.
Then paint inside with a rust inhibitor/preventer.
That's really my only option as there are no second hand axles over here and they'd be a fortune to buy if there was and also to import.
I'm gonna have a word with my mechanic.
I can do the easy donkey stuff such as pulling and cleaning/painting etc.
It'll help keep the price down.
Thanks for the information Big Guy about yours being the same as mine.
That info has helped tremendously about the rust issues you had. . I thought mine was a red headed step child for a minute there as all 03's are anyway lol.
If any of you guys read this thread, check on your axle vents to make SURE they're clear.
Mine weren't by being covered funnily enough, by a chassis rust/undercoat sealer??The axle then not being able to vent caused condensation in the axle tubes hence what I call "the rusticals" lol.
For sure, everyone MUST check these vents are clear.
Both back and fronts for us 4x4 people out here.
