Nothing's gonna seem longer than taking it easy for the first 500 miles! Breezing through gears in the city and pulling the revs out of the depths of hell on the higway is well worth it. Will definately seem like a new truck. And yes seeing a couple of black stripes on the pavement when you get on it is nice.

Well.....BAD NEWS!!!
upon tearing down my diff, the mech pulled the axles from the tubes.
I got a call saying these tubes were FULL of rust along with bad wear marks where the axles sit on the bearings.
When I looked down the axle tubes, it was like seeing stalagmites and stalactites in a cave or something.
Mech says it's probably been the diff breather blocked causing condensation build up in the tubes??? Even though there's lots of oil being flung around in there, it's still rusted., Why????
Needless to say, the diff oil was like mud!
So all in all I need 2 new rear axles.......and some way of getting rid of all the rust inside the axle tubes.
Boxing everything back up now just to get me back on the road, as it's pointless fitting all these new parts, bearings and seals with an axle in this condition.
Sick and P****d off is the word and well out of pocket!!
Al

Sucks for sure to be getting ready to have a project done only to find a setback. Sorry to hear the bad news. Are you going to have to find a set over here and have them exported/imported?

Al,

Is there any way you can get into a small car for a short time? Pull the entire diff, tear it down and have it boiled out?----like an engine block. Then rebuild appropriately (sp)?

The gears where done in my 03 in 2007. Heavy rust was found in mine as well. It was decided to pull the entire axle housing and have it boiled out. I pulled the axles out last year to replace the seals. The rust is back. Boiling will buy you some time. But if it's like mine the rust will come back. My advice is if your going to spend the $$$ get another axle housing.
