That's right they do. I completely forgot. I knew it was at the front of the engine but I did forget they made them pointing up. My bad. But like you said I still want to know how he got it to fit under the hood.

 

You have an IAT sensor to worry about as well, which would need to go between the filter and the T/B in the neck somewhere's. Not sure where or how you'd be able to fit it?
Also, an air filter like you are referring to sucks hot engine heat rather than cool air from the fender. Aside from looks, I'd say it's a downgrade performance wise.
