One automatic transmission only. Even on older 3rd Gens which used a 45rfe, it's physically identical to the 545rfe except for a software change giving an extra O/D gear. You can do a simple software update via StarScan tool to make an older 45rfe into a 545rfe.

So yeah, the tranny shop is snowing you, either intentionally or due to their own ignorance...

Sorry I was at work, that wasn't my link. Go here:

Mediafire will say 'preview not available'. Look for the big green download button off to the right. Click on that.

Not on an 02-05, need a DRBIII or DRBIII emulator. StarScan is strictly CANbus, won't talk to PCI. I actually wish I had an 02 4.7 to tinker with, be fun to figure out how to do it.

Yes and No... you usually need to do both, the two systems talk to each other on a limited basis, basically just to make sure it's all working correct.... The DRBIII is what you use to access the SRS/Air Bag System and some ancillary systems for the PCM... Starscan is only for the CAN BUS & OBDII System, as well as the PCM read-only tables.

My truck parts manual shows an NP241, not the NV241, what's the difference, if any?

Was hoping someone knowledgable on Transfer Cases could help troubleshoot the possible problems with mine not engaging.

Shift fork or belt? Possible ideas?

Going to buy a donor case today, unknown condition, start tearing it apart and rebuild it, then put it in the truck and see what's up with the one we put in, unless someone has a good idea what might solve the problem?

Thanks everyone for their input!

Lear try making sure your linkage is still there. If it's a manual 4x4 they have a tendency of falling off

Are you talking about the actual shift fork?

The shop that put it in last week has done work for me before, pretty sure they'd notice if the hardware was missing. They got it in, tried to shift it into gear, and nothing in either 2wd or 4wd.

Just wondering what internally might not be lining up, possibly the shift fork isn't engaging the gears internally? Haven't had one of these apart so having a hard time visualizing what might not be working right...?

I have an 02 with the 4.7 and 45rfe trans and all you need to do for the extra OD gear is get a TCM from an 02 to 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's a direct swap and works real slick. Trans shifts so much better now than it did before. Best cheap mod I've done to the ole girl, $50. I think it will work on an 03 too but I may be wrong.

Sorry for the high jack.

Where is the TCM located? I am interested in the 545 swap.

Sorry man but if your looking to do this on your '98 then you can't. This only works on the '02 and maybe some of the earlier '03s with the 3.7 or 4.7 engines.

Only works if you have an RFE transmission, won't work on your 46RE.
