Default Help 5.9 2002 no spark

Any help would be apreciated I just bought a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9v8 auto loaded. It died on him at highway speed. Truck has 191000 miles altho only about 20000 on rebuilt motor & trans.

I bought it non running he diagnosed bad computer no spark. He replaced the coil & after that did not help he followed some diagnostic plan & he says the pin out on the computer tests out no output.

Here is what I saw when looking at it. all guages seem to work & when cranking trying to start the tach needle moves up like it should (keeps time with the cranking around 200rpms or s)so it seems like the crank sensor is working is the computer a safe bet or should I look elsewhere? it showed no signs of starting at all but turns over fine. 3/4 tank of fuel

Thanks
John

Change cap and rotor..

Check ALL relays...

But... It sounds like its a bad cam position sensor.. it hides out with the dizzy..

Bad cam sensor? that would be great. It will cause the problems mentioned? I was surprised that from most of the threads on computers all guages are dead & not the case with this truck

If it's the cam sensor like Drew says, that would explain why the gauges work but the engine doesn't run. If the PCM were dead, nothing would work.

That would be great. I am really hoping that this is the problem. I guess I will buy 1 & swap it out & see before spending the money on the computer. First I have get it towed to my house

That would be great if it is just that. I was thinking there was a chance it was not the computer since the guages all seem to work good. Well still looking for input & I will post back when I get it towed home & try that.

If not cps, could be broken timing chain, or stripped distributor gear..

Well bought & installed new distributer pick up piece & installed no difference. The dizzy is turning with the motor so no broken chain. Tried fairly hard to turn rotor by hand & it is tight so not likely a sheare pin on dizzy gear. I did note that the computer in there now is a mopar reman not original so I guess I will order up one from one of the online people & see if that fixes it.
