Default Truck issue while backing up

Hey all. Two days this week ive been backing out of my driveway and as im backing up the whole truck just stops. It feels like im backing up into a brick wall or another car. It kind of feels like my antilock brakes may be grabbing. It was raining very hard both days. Anyone have any ideas or similair problems??

My first thought would be the parking brakes. Mine are rusted solid. I found out by actually trying to use the parking brake, then they wouldn't release. Had to get WD-40 and a mallet to loosen them up. I'd like to replace them, but I don't know where to get the linkages (if they are available, that is)...

Just sounds like your rotors are rusting slightly overnight. That will cause your pads and/ or e-brake shoes to grab. Once you drive a little bit, it will wear off and you're back to normal. You can slightly ride the brakes, and the e-brake if you want to clean them off quickly.

well after thinking about it, i wasnt too sure if it was the brakes or something with the trans...i dropped it off at the dealership yesterday morning...they claimed i needed a software update which corrected something with the transmission from jumping from reverse to neutral...I have never heard of this before but he said it is a small issue with rams in which youll be in reverse and your truck would slip into neutral...it was covered under warranty so i didnt question it, but also apparently my trans fluid was very discolored so they flushed it out and put new fluid in....i dont know if its the answer to my problem, i guess ill find out the next couple days, i did notice after they worked on it the truck seemed to feel alot smoother putting it into reverse...before it made a small "clonking" noise if thats how i could describe it...

There is an entire kit that needs to be bought. It's cheaper than replacing single pieces, and includes EVERYTHING to repair the parking brakes.

I know, I had to have it done on my truck for a safety. The kit cost something like $400, but I had almost nothing left of my parking brake assemblies.

I'm also driving a 2002 1500.

Cool! Do you have any information on this kit? I tried doing a quick look on RockAuto's site but didn't see such a kit. Do you know a manufacturer or part number(s)? Is it a dealer-only item?

Thanks

well my truck was locking up again while in reverse...had my girlfriend back it out of driveway so i could see what it was doing...It basically seems like something is locking up, doesnt feel like my ABS, but who knows..definitely something in the rear...just dont know if its something with my brakes or my trans or driveshaft or what....only has happened so far after truck sits for awhile, and mainly when it has rained or raining (wet conditions).
