If the key is grey, it's chipped and the remote start will require some sort of bypass. I installed the OEM remote start, and there is a ring that fits around the key cylinder that passes the code when the remote starter is used.

I found the OEM kit on craigslist from a guy who was returning his truck on lease, but I had gone to the local car audio shop during their "$199 remote start sale" and left with a quote near $700 after they said I needed the bypass module, special modules for dodge door locks, special this because it's a dodge, and special that because it's a dodge...I'm sure that's the rub to get you in the door and then upcharge you. The OEM remote start goes inline with the monster harness coming out of the steering wheel, and then taps the brake switch and headlights, pretty simple install if you can track one of those down.

Before the by pass module, the installer would ask you to obtain an additional key. They would tape it inder the dash by the steering column. The last time I needed a "programable" key, I got it made at home depot, $69.99 plus tax.
