I did a quick search for 4.7s and it looks like 07 Dakota will only work in 06-07 Rams. I know the communications system went from PCI in 05 to CAN in 06+ for rams.

As far as tone rings, I think they're both going to use a 32 tooth, so I would doubt that is your problem. I would start looking up sensors for both years/vehicles and look for some differences there.

Also, I highly doubt you can just swap the PCMs. Because of the PCI / CAN differences, all the electrical devices are going to be different and probably won't work at all.

The engine is from an 06 dakota not an 07. Sorry about the mix-up. The intake was from a 2007 Dakota. But I installed the 05 ram intake due to the intake plugs being different.

So the engine is from a 2006 Dakota with the 05 ram intake.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I have no clue what to do next. I talked to the guy that sold me this engine and told him the pos didn't work. He said he'll try to get me another but I think he is just bs'ing me. It's been about 5 months since I bought the truck and installed the engine. I've done many swaps and this is the first that I have gotten stuck on. I doubt that anything else may be the problem. My guess is that the engine is bad. I will either try to get another motor or get my money back, wish me luck.

Any 03-05 will work. Technically, 06+ will work also but you will have to take out the MDS lifters and replace with non-MDS lifters

UPDATE-
No progress at all besides pushing the truck to another part of my backyard. LOL

I have not done anything to the ram at all. Well I read that the 3rd gen dakota had a standard and a high output 4.7. Could it be that the engine is from a high output dakota?
