maybe you could try opening the glove box while the truck is off and see if the map lights work.

Why because I added some lights?? it's neatly done work

But honestly, I'm fairly sure I'm the last owner this truck will see.

I honestly look forward to your posts, cause you're always up to sumthin!! I was actually referring to you're wanting to tinker with the brains of the transmission, your window switch fiasco, soldering drunk, now this, and who knows what else!! It's neat to read about your adventures personalizing this truck, I'm just sayin I wouldn't want it when you're done with it!!!
Carry on...

Well I know on trucks with the TIPM system, the whole system sees some voltage (<=5V) for like 15-20 minutes after you turn it off...

I assume that is how it knows what circuits to turn off, for example I was working outside and needed some light, so I went and turned the headlights on and about 15-20 minutes into it, they just turned off... so I went and turned them off and on again... to my surprise they turned off again... then I remembered TIPM controls just about everything, and sure enough it says that the headlights will turn off after a period of time of the engine being turned off so that the battery doesn't get drained.

Needless to say I stopped being lazy and went and got the extension cords and work lamps after that.. lol

The transmission was solved just by turning OD off.... I'm just glad I found that out before I started doing something crazy lol.

I've been like this my whole life, that's why I took engineering

One time when I was like 5 or 6 my parents bought me a remote controlled "big foot" monster truck. I had it for about a day before I decided to smash it all up so I could turn it into a robot..... I have no idea how I would have ever done that, but hey I had big ambitions lol.

needless to say my parents were less than amused.

as far as this truck or any of my vehicles are concerned, I always make sure to do the work properly.

More power to ya!! I look forward to many more posts. You are obviously not satisfied with status quo, business as usual, and I commend you for that. Maybe as a result of your tinkering and schooling, you can provide a better product in the future.

BTW, you must be just a few years younger than me. I had that big foot programmable truck when I was maybe 12 years. I remember I was dissapointed in the fact is wasn't 6 wheel drive, as it had 6 wheels with only 2 of them powered. I tried to tie them all together with a rubber strap. It didn't work. Keep tinkering!!!!

Never mind. The truck I was referring to was Big Track. It was not remote control, you had to program it with a keypad on the top. We are not so close in age, as it came out in 1978!!

I was born in 82

Anyway I got this solved. I picked up a couple of 91Ohm 3W resistors (closest they had) and it seems to be doing the trick perfectly.

There are a couple of little "tabs" on the side of the sockets that resistors will just slide right into. Just push the socket in a bit and the resistor will fit in no problem.

they get really rather hot though so make sure they are directly under the metal heat shield, and sitting out in the air slightly.

12.3/91= 135mA dissipation
12.3^2/91=1.66W

Glad I went with the 3W resistors.
