Default seat belt pretensioner

RANT:
well my airbag light came on a few days ago. i finally got a chance to start calling around and could NOT find a place to run an airbag diagnosis, so i decided to take her up to the Chevy STEALership that i got her from. after being redirected all through the maintenance department, i finally got a quote. $111 dollars just for a diagnosis! i turned around and walked away without saying a word. on my way home i passed a run down auto body & collision repair shop and decided to try my luck. was greeted by Oscar, the owner, as i stepped out of my truck, great guy. well turns out, he had the equipment and was able to diagnose the problem in a matter of minutes. all for the whopping price of FREE! gave him a $20 tip, and i'll be going back there for sure!

so now to the light. diagnosis says my seat belt pretensioner is 'open'. not sure if that means its gone off or not, but im assuming it needs replaced because Oscar wasn't able to turn it off after a system reset. so now im in need of some help.

ive heard the pretensioners can be located in the buckle or the pillar. where is it in our trucks? '05 to be exact?

is there a way to check and see if it has gone off?

where and for how much would i be able to find and replace it, if needed? has anyone taken on something like this, or is it best to leave to a mechanic?

I think it is in the winding assembly which is in the pillar... but don't quote me on it...

Not very common for those to go bad... hope it didn't actually trigger (gone off) b/c then you might need to replace the Air Bag computer/monitor... which isn't cheap.

Personally I would have Dodge look into this for me, b/c it's safety related and I like to know that my safety equipment is working properly 100% before I drive my vehicles. Ever since a very bad accident I had, safety is top priority.

when you say air bag computer/monitor, do you mean the crash monitor under the dash? like, mounted on the tunnel?
