Default Oil Consumption 2008 4.7 1500 325,XXX miles

I have just started to see some oil consumption on my 2008. I have to add a Qt every 2k miles. I called dodge and they said it is not considered "bad" until it burns at a rate of 1 qt every 750 miles.

No smoke on startup from cold or hot.

4.7 flex @ 325k miles, Slight tapping noise @ idle.

Should i worry or just stock up on Oil to top off between changes?

Thanks for the advise

Well, it's either leaking, burning or going into the coolant. The 4.7 is very unforgiving of overheating. Maybe the head gasket is leaking oil into the coolant.

Just checked coolant, Clear and bright orange, no oil in radiator. No leaks from this engine. Only leaves burning. So assuming its burning under heavy acceleration when should i be worried?

Mine is at 120K+. Practically no loss of oil between changes at all. Every so often I notice a puff of blue at startup. That indicates the valve stem seals are going away. Burning under load may indicate an issue with the rings. When did you last clean/replace the PCV valve?

Hmmm. At 325K, it's certainly seen its share. I guess it may be past end-of-life at that point. You've done well keeping it going that long. How 'bout a can of Restore with the next oil change? Maybe that would help.

Past its life!! Never!

Well actually a question then for anyone more knowledgeable then me. How many miles can I expect from a gasoline engine? I've never missed an oil change, every factory service has been done at factory intervals etc... Original owner so i have the lifetime warranty but I really want to get some more miles before replacing engine. Only engine work that I've done is lifters. Running approx 90k a year mostly hwy.

Thanks

My 03, 4.7 has about 179k miles. Heads, gaskets, water pump, radiator were replaced at 165k. It consumes anywhere from .5-1.5 per oil change interval. I guess it just depends on how I drive that period. I've noticed a lot of city driving consumes more oil than when I drive highway.

OM,

If your not burning oil, it's not in the coolant, you changed the PVC about 17k ago, and now it is losing oil I might try another PVC. Maybe you got a bad one or it failed already.
