Default So my ticking is almost gone?

I changed my oil today and noticed almost immediately that the ticking noise in my engine is almost gone.

I no longer hear it at idle, and it doesn't seem to tick when I rev the engine or at least it's very quiet to the point I don't notice it.

When I put it in gear however it still ticks, albeit not as loudly, but starts doing so somewhere around 1000rpm. But if it's it in park I can ramp it up to 3500rpm and not notice the ticking.

So it must be somewhat lubrication related, but does this give any indication as to what the damn noise actually is?

Unsure. I have read different threads on here where people have changed from one brand of oil to another and it has either made the tick worse or better. So it appears the lubrication affects it somewhat. Also each engine is different one may get better with brand A while another engine gets better with brand B.

From? I have no clue. To? Royal purple with a K&N filter (couldn't find a RP filter TODAY)

It's weird that it now only seems to happen under load, or basically when it's in gear and moving.

I'm not really sure if temp affects it at this point. I'll find out today because it'll be the first truly cold start since yesterday.

I want to say that temp does affect it, but it could be in my head or it could also be that the previous oil was in such bad shape that it needed to be hot to lubricate.

What's the possibility that it could be the timing chain?

Couldn't tell ya, but the sound being made doesn't sound like a metal chain slapping against an aluminum/hollow case.

I also switched to RP just because I read on this forum that it helps with the tick. It does help. It is sor sure quieter. But u can still hear it pretty much all the time after it warms up. Mine don't tick until the motor gets warm. The oil gets warm and thinner. I often wondered if switching to 5w-40 would stop it?

Some people have had good luck with Amsoil as well.
