lift kit advice
i am thinking of buying a 3" suspension lift with coils springs, shocks, and lift blocks. i am also gonna add a 3" coil spacer and lift shackle totalling into a 6" lift. i was wondering if that would work or have any problems with that. also the suspension kit is for 2002-2005 dodge ram, will it fit for my 2007 dodge ram quad cabd 2wd? please need your help before purchasing.
My advice with lifts is to do it right the first time and save money. Get a full lift kit and don't piece together one unless you know what you're doing. It's worth the extra money in the long run when you aren't replacing front end parts every year. As for what you're asking I can't remember so I won't confirm if an 02-05 kit will fit 06-08 2WDs. But I always advise people to stay away from coil spacers because I've heard some bad stories plus no REAL lift kits out there use them so that should tell you something about them. You gotta pay to play and you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to auto parts
In general there is nothing wrong with coil spacers. They provide cheap lift. But I've heard in the past that they mess with the spring and the geometry of the front end alot more then a kit does. If anything spend a little more and get 3" lift spindles instead. A lot safer and better overall.

Moving on, besides the aforementioned issues, you simply cannot do what you are proposing (longer coils AND a coil spacer). You have to choose one or the other, and again, keep it under 2". You can, however, use a 3-4" lift spindle and a 2" spacer or longer coils, resulting in 5-6" of total lift.
For the rear, if you want the truck to be level, you would use 3" blocks, or a 2" block and a rear leaf lowering shackle from a 2nd gen RAM 1500. That's not a typo, the lowering shackle for the 2nd gen RAM actually lifts the rear on a 3rd gen. Objectively, you could use a standard shackle from the 2nd gen to achieve more lift. However, the way the rear suspension is designed, the length of the shackle is not proportional to the amount of lift. The 2nd gen lowering shackle is considerably longer than our stock shackle, yet only lifts the rear about an inch, give or take. The law of diminishing returns comes into effect fairly swift here.
So to break it all down:
- $50-150 - spacers or coils
- $300-$800 - 3" airbagit or 4" CST lift spindle (yes, there's a $500 price difference for 1"!)
- ~$75 - 3" rear blocks
- ~$50 - rear leaf shackle
That puts you at approximately $575 for 5" and $1075 for 6".
Big price difference, but consider that a real lift kit with a proper subframe from, let's say Fabtech, comes in at around $1500. All of these prices are assuming you do the install.
Now all of the numbers and conjecture are all well and good, but here's the bottom line: I went the route you're thinking of, and started with 3" spindles in the front and the leaf shackles in the rear, planning to eventually hit the 6" mark with further upgrades as I went along. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't even think twice before purchasing an pre-made 6" kit and installing that all in one go. The extra money is worth it. I cannot stress that enough. That's my
ok thx 08 hemi......now on that note the total lift for the 5" is $575 which i still need to buy shocks so then the 6" lift kit might be a better purchase huh lol

You could also look for a used kit. That's what I did. I got my 2WD 6" FabTech lift kit from a member for 1k and then I had a family friend put it on for 500 (other places wanted to charge me another grand!). It'll probably be hard to find a used one though. I got lucky
