oil leaking from block
i have a 2005 ram 1500 4x4 my wife drove it last night and it broke down there is oil everywhere it is coming from the top back of block upper intake area checked the dip stick n found no oil oil cap smells bad like gas can someone help me lol i can wrench but not good at iding the issue
Well we need to know the engine size....
If there was ZERO oil and the truck shut itself off I would bet there might be some serious bearing damage present.....
As for the oil leak, we would need some pictures to even begin guessing where it is coming from....
You might want to start at the larger issue and have a compression and leak down test done to make sure no major damage was done to the engine internals.
Oil starvation only takes 30-120 seconds to cause irreparable damage to bearings...

it has the 5.7l v 8 the oil pressure gauge said it was still holding pressure it did not shut of put in oil yesterday and ran it motor sounds like it did anyother day if u follow the fuel injectors back, between there and the upper plenum on the back side of the motor i looked at the fiber material tht is on the firewall and it looks like it spreyed i will try to upload pics soon
Almost looks like it is coming from the valve cover, but it wouldn't travel against gravity...
Can you give us another angle more from the top and front of the truck?
Going to be very hard to tell.
My suggestion is to goto the local auto parts store and buy a bottle of oil dye and get a UV Flashlight kit.... then you can add the dye run the truck for a little bit and see if the dye shows up. Just make sure you clean off ALL of the old oil that is there first.
After you find and fix the oil leak I would still suggest a compression test at the minimum just to make sure nothing got damaged.
