CEL on, P0138 code...can I drive it?
2007 Ram 4x4 Hemi Quad Cab. The CEL came on and I plugged my little ElmScan 5 scan tool in and it showed a P0138 code. I turned the light off with the tool but within about three months it came back on. Turned it off again and it came back on within two days. It says the problem is the 02 Sensor Circuit (high voltage). Now my question: can I drive the thing without doing any damage until I get ambition to replace the sensor....don't really care if the light is on.

Because O2 sensor can affect Fuel Trim, even the Down Stream sensor. If you run your engine excessively Rich for a long period of time, you could damage the CAT. And if you run it Lean for a long period of time, you can damage the Engine.
also, do NOT use Bosch O2 sensor, even tho they are half of the price, only use OEM sensor from dealership, or use Denso or NTK O2 sensor.

Don,
I'd have to agree with p38251 and steak59, to get the vehicle repaired. It is always best to have the issue taken care of as soon as possible, before it causes damage to any other components. If you'd like me to review with a Dodge dealer for you and assist in setting up an appointment, feel free to PM me.

You offer to help is appreciated but I seriously doubt if I have it replaced at a dealership. I will be leaving this cold miserable Iowa for Naples, Florida early next week so the truck will just set in my shop for all of February. When I return I will check with a couple of local mechanics and if they don't seem comfortably with fixing it I may have to check with a dealership.
Thanks again,
