Default DIY 9.25 rear end rebuild write up?

New to the forum, Looking for a write up possibly with pics to rebuild 04 1500 limited slip 3.55 gears rear end. This is the second time it has went out. 1st time at 38,000 the clutch pac went at the dealers coin, $2400 to replace everything. This time it is whining under load and settles out about 65. Thinking they may not have done a true complete rebuild. I now have 124,000. I dont have that kind of cash to to that again or put an auburn or detroit in it.

Any advice or write up would greatly be appreciated!

well the detroit would be the way I'd go... and I'd pinch pennies and go mad easy on the truck until I could afford it...

There are some videos on youtube but I am not sure if there is a step by step write-up...

Yup-----and get rid of those 3.55 gears. 3.92's at least if not 4.11's. You'll get better mileage, and better all around drivability

Make sure the pinion nut isn't working loose first.

Yes I have pulled the cover, change the gear oil every 30K with Royal Purple, everything looks good, no shavings. Did get water in once but was changed after. i dont like the rubber fill plugs at all. just changed the right bearing and seal. I was going to do both but wanted to do a master rebuild.

if you do want to do it yourself this is about the best write up for a rear end rebuild I have found, not 9.25 specific but its pretty good: clicky

That is the problem, the royal purple fluid does NOT have the friction additive that our LSD's require to work correctly.

That is what likely helped cause the failure...

Make sure you use the correct fluid called out by the manufacturer of the LSD if you choose an Aftermarket one.
