Default '05 Daytona conversion update

Ordered the Hood scoop under hood conversion kit for $399 from www.hambekcustoms.com. Should fit the RamAir CAI with no problems. Also ordered the JBA middies (not long-not short) silver ceramic exhaust headers from "autoanything.com" with the "y"-pipe for $799.00 including shipping and no tax. Checked with Dodge, Borla and JBA to make sure that the stock Daytona headers "ARE NOT" tuned to the Borla exhaust system. Can't think of anything else I can do to improve HP vs. thrust with the exception of changing the thermostat to a Hypertech Thermostat or something similiar to it. The only other thing I can change to increase HP is to install a performance cam shaft specifically designed for the Daytona 5.7 Hemi. But that's really too much trouble for a few mor HP. I've already increased my total HP from 345HP to approx 415HP.

Installed the Hypertech Power Programmer III the other day with a slight difference in performance. Response is great, still getting 15.8 mpg on 93 octane with an average speed of 55 mph. Expect to see quite a difference (about +25HP) after I install the headers. The Retrax Roll top cover helps alot. Also keep the tires pumped to 44 psi.

Just keeping in touch, JR

Considering ditching the Daytona wing for a SRT-10 wing to alleviate the rear mirror blockage of the wing.

I'd be curious about seeing some pics as well. Out of curiosity, is your estimate of 415 HP based on the various manufacturers implied increase in performance or is it from a dyno run? From my research and investigation, it seems that the "balance" of the mods is as important or even more so than the random application of high performance parts. From what I have gathered, the 5.7 motor is pretty well optimized right from the factory and there aren't as many points to gain as on an older chevy small block for instance.

Out of curiosity, how the hell do you get that thing to hook up? Traction is already a concern on my truck, and I haven't done near the things you have. Even with the Daytona 20's, a full throttle launch results in a hell of a lot of black smoke and not much "get down the street". If ya get a chance, do a followup and let us know how things are going.

Curious, what mods took you from 345hp to 415hp? If you are adding the HP increase percentages and flat HP increase numbers from the vendors selling the upgrades you will be very disappointed. 95% of the HP increases advertised are not even close to what you will get.

yep I am with you on that, the HP increases that the manufacturers say they get are all started with "up to" before any HP figure. Highly unlikely you can go from 345 to 415 or whatever from just the mods that have been listed. Plus the expected addition of the headers will probly do little as far as HP too, considering the exhaust still has to breath through the OEM cat and that the truck already had the "aftermarket" cat-back to begin with. I am saving my money till my truck gets closer to being out of warranty and I will probly go with the STS turbo setup.

Hey, y'all! After I get the JBA's installed, I've gotta mech who will dyno the truck. My installs are recommended from a Hemi enthusiast from the Dodge Service dept. No parts have been purchased from Dodge. . .mostly Summit Racing. What bothers me is what y'all say 'bout the added HP's. . .but I'll resolve that with the dyno test. I know, from talking to Borla, Dodge racing and Summit Racing, that they have to be pretty close on the HP's with the added performance parts to the Daytona. Not one to argue. . .however, we'll see. One other point. . .I had a a friend in the truck the other day timing me, I went from 0 to 75, backed off at 6200 RPM's in under 9 seconds. No smoke, just get-up-and-go. My tires are at 44psi. What do y'all think the difference is? I have no weight in the bed, just the bed cover which weighs next to nothin'. Full tank of petro. Don't know, but, I like it!!!

Mods and horsepower?

Believe dynos, not marketing hype. The latter would like us to believe that all those supposed simple 12-18hp bolt-ons are additive and together equal 50-60 hp! I've spent way too much time on dynos... it just "ain't so."

As for the SOTP (seat of the pants) dyno? Do I have to say? When people expend resources for anythng, they ARE going to "feel" the difference.

Way too much research to the contrary to put any stock in the validity of the SOTP dyno. Sorry, just a fact.

Buy your mods, have fun, but show us the data! Otherwise, it's all bench-racing.

All the best.

I'm curious how the dyno run went? If your're getting 415bhp and doing wheelies, I want the recipe [sm=groupwave.gif]
