Default RPM Drop when accelerated

So, if I am coasting down a hill and I move to give gas to the truck the RPMs go from 1500 to around 1200-1300. Its a 04 ram, SWB, 4.7, auto. 94Kmiles. No engine lights or lights at all on the dash so I am thinking its tune up related possibly. If anyone can tell me what this sounds like please let me know! A friend told me that its just how the truck is, going into gear from coasting.

It sounds normal, unless you are heavily applying the accelerator. When you coast, the TC lockup clutch unlocks so the truck can pick up speed down the hill. The truck picks up speed and the RPMs of the engine pick up slightly because there is no load at all from the transmission at that time. Similar to the change in idle from P to D.

If it seems like you need to give it excessive throttle to get it to respond, then you may need to look further.

If you havent done any maintenance then why not go ahead and knock it all out? It wont hurt and Im certain it would help in other areas
