Tread Wear Question
I have an 03 ram 1500 4.7 2wd single cab truck. I put 4 brand new tires on the truck Bridgestone Alenza's (get 30% for work discount on this model) that come with a 65,000 mile warranty. Typically if you have uneven tread wear then there is something in the suspension. The tires have been on my truck right at 6k miles front tires and rear driver look great but the rear pass is close to the wear bar.
I have not rotated since they were put on (shouldn't make much of a difference with 6k miles on the tire). I had an alignment week before I put the tires in was in spec going into to the shop and in spec coming out of the alignment. Can anyone think of a reason why just the one tire would go bald so fast? I do not tow anything and I keep rpms around 15-1700 while cruise and peaks around 2500 when accelerating now if im passing which is just a few times a month tops il hit close to 4500 rpm. I cant think of anything other than a bad tire.
Firestone manager was trying to tell me its common for most trucks to have only 1 drive wheel that pushes the vehicle is this correct? I have always been under the assumption that both rear wheels are drive wheels on the truck.

Yes, only one drive wheel, hence LSD's. However, 6K wear out on ANY tire that isn't abused or made for the track means something is seriously amiss. I can't think of any reason, aside from a REALLY heavy right foot, why a non-defective tire (which is warranted to last for 65K) is wearing out at 1/10th of it's expected tread life.
Have them replace it under warranty. There's either something wrong with the tire, or something missing from your "daily driving habits" explanation.

That is completely crazy, there's no way at 6,000 miles it should be that worn or that uneven. Even though there's only "1 drive wheel" if you do happen to have an lsd, most of the time both back wheels are going to engage, unless it is slick, which is not all the time. Maybe at 15-20 k you might see something, but I gotta agree with chet, something is wrong. Take it back and talk to somebody till they fix it.
Most I could get yesterday they were about to close and I had my lady taking me out to a bday dinner so I didnt push as hard but they offered to pro rate the tire based on mileage I had it for and mileage on the warranty. They also offered to have me come back today to have a free rotate and balance (its free anyway was part of the tire package I paid for). Hopefully I can talk to a manager and try to get it straight today.
Replace the tire, its either defective or as mentioned, something is missing in the dailey driving habits------I tend to believe you have a defective tire. Especially if the tires you took off were wearing normal. Rotating them is great, but this will not solve the problem. You still have a defective tire on a different wheel. If the service manager at your shop can't help, call the regional rep-------for all you know, that "one" may have come from China.

I will agree with everything that was mentioned above. Something is wrong with the tire. If you went to a national chain garage and the manager is giving you a hard time, take your receipt to another place and see if they will help. Not sure why they would give you hassles though, it is under warranty. The only thing they have to pay for out of pocket is the labor to put a new tire on. How long does that take? 10 minutes...

That tire is out of round, probably a belt is misaligned during production.
Yes, you can get a "one wheel peel" but that's only for a moment or two when one rear tire has better traction than the other. As far as only one tire (wheel) driving the vehicle in normal driving conditions, the guy is all wet. Firestone needs to hire managers with a clue...

Has to be just coincidence that the bald tire is on the drive wheel. That certainly wouldn't cause that issue in 6k miles unless you just burn out eveytime you take off. Regardless of one drive wheel or two, with proper rotation, pressure, balancing, alignment, and normal driving, the tires should wear evenly. Probably has nothing to do with the issue, but if you still running stock shocks, might be time for a change.
