Broken spider gears - nothing else
I have a 2006 5.7 2wd with 3.92 limited slip diff. I started hearing/feeling banging from the rear. I thought that it might be from the equipment that I keep in the bed, I use this truck for work. On a right turn, there was a really loud bang - I knew something was wrong.
I serviced the rear diff to see what is going on in there. 2 or 3 teeth on two of the spider gears are gone. I cleaned out the metal pieces and put new fluid in.
I not sure how to handle the repair. I see 3 options:
1. Replace spider gears
2. Place LSD with an aftermarket locker and do my best to get all the metal out of the housing
3. Replace the complete axle assembly with stock parts.
I don't think 1 is a good choice, but I'm having trouble deciding between the other two.

Replacing the LSD with an aftermarket unit is usually the easiest and fastest option... and then you're worry free for awhile...
Getting the metal out is easy you just drop the housing and run it through a parts cleaning tank or have if hot-tanked....
