suspension qustion specific to 06 - 08 1500 4X4
Currently I have a 07 1500 4X4 QC with a 2 1/2" leveling kit and 35X12.50 cooper MT's. I'm starting to think of ideas to bump it up a tad. One option is adding a 3" body lift. I'm kind of concerned with how visible the frame would be so I'm starting to think of a suspension sytem instead. That's where my questions will be focused on.
For starters, I've heard that most suspensions require 18+" wheels is that true? I have 17 inch wheels and the tires have 10000 miles on them so changing them out is not an option. Besides, I like the looks of 17" wheels better anyway. If anybody has a 4" or 6" suspension with 17" wheel what brand lift did you use? Were there any issues with fitment?
If I go with a suspension I would remove the current spacers? Would I only need to replace the longer bolts with stock length ones? Would I need to rent/buy a strut compressor? I had them installed at a shop so I don't know quite what was involved.
If I go with a 4" or 6" suspension how hard is it to install? Is it strictly a bolt system? Can 1 person do it in a weekend? Is there any welding that has to be done? If so, the lift is out as I can't weld and intend to do this myself. Cutting? Again, something I'm not comfortable doing so that would probably rule it out as well. Any special tools such as strut compressor that might just take the cost above what I'm willing to spend?
I have installed suspension lifts before on straight axle 4X4's as well as body lifts so I know what is involved, just not specifically to my truck, an 07 IFS 1/2 ton with struts.
Thanks
I just posted this several minites ago but did not see it up. Perhaps I sent it to the wrong place or it's lost somewhere in computer land and may mysteriously pop up. So mods, if this post is already up go ahead and cancel this.
