Default After Market Head Unit

Hey guys im coming into foreign territory from the chevy side . Helping out a buddy with his attempted DIY head unit install I have never messed with dodge as far as this. Whats going on is he has a kenwood ddx line, The head unit is turning on completely at random but only for 3-5 seconds at a time. I will be over there today. But I wanted to get some ideas before because he is pretty clueless. Do you guys have RAP? Does the ram 1500 non nav require any kind of BUSmodule for after unit HU. Anybody seen this issue before. Any idea would be awesome.

Oh yay annnnnnddd chevvyyyyy

Need more details. Does he have factory Infinity sound and is he keeping it with the new hu? Does he have steering wheel controls and expect them to work? Did he get a wiring harness or is he cutting and splicing wires?

I put in a new pioneer hu last month. I bought from crutchfield and had to also get a wiring harness that supports using the Infinity amp and speakers and another adapter that makes the steering wheel controls work with the new hu. An antenna wire adapter was also needed.

I know my 06 needs the bus module because if I remember correctly, there is no 12v power wire to the radio harness, it goes through the computer. You don't mention the year of the truck you working with. There is a 1/2 generation in 3rd gen...02-05 and 06-08 have many similarities and many differences, so if the truck you are working with is older than mine, there is a chance it may be a wiring issue or receiver issue and not need the bus module...owning a Chevy, seems youvd be an electrical whiz already, I know many people keep me as a friend because I am an electrical guru living in what used to be GM country....sorry, had to say it.

2007 1500. He has no idea if he has infinity. Do they brand the grills like in the jeeps with Boston? I know he has an oddball number Steering wheel controls do not need to be retained. He was sold the bus but best buy last night (why he trusted them I have no idea. Hopefully that helps really I just need to know by is the ideal wire path for an aftermarket install. I know the aftermarket amp I present will be just a joy I have been through that I ripped Bose out of multiple trailblazers terrible

yes, there is usually badging on the speaker grills, or somewhere near the speakers, and many times the receiver has a badge if it is Infinity. Worst case, call dealer with VIN, they should be able to tell you. IF it is Infinity, it'll be about the same project of ripping out Bose.

You could call crutchfield and play it as if you are shopping and have tech questions instead of already purchased and see what you can get out of them. These issues are why i always shop and buy from them.
