Default changing fluids question...

Hey guys I have a 2008 ram QC hemi 4x4 with just over 60k miles. I bought the truck with just over 47k miles. I do not know if the fluids(trans dif) were changes before my purchase. Should I do a flush and begin my scheduled maintance or has the truck gone too long without the flush? I have heard that at a certain mile marker if you have not changed the fluids you shouldnt bother.

Thanks

No that's not entirely correct.
Change all fluids except for the transmission.
What you have probably heard is not to flush a high mileage transmission - rather do a transmission pan drop and full filter change. That's what most people do.
Then top off with fresh fluid for a partial fluid change.
A pan drop requires between 7 and 8 quarts.
If your a 4x4 make sure you get the correct flat filter as there's a difference between a 2wd and a 4x4.
Hope this helps?
Al.

I don't know what the magic mileage mark is but I chose to do the pan drop and fill, especially since my trans fluid still looked and smelled ok. Of course, there is no flush on the diffs, just drain them out, wipe out the gunk and clean the magnets and fill them back up.

Tranny fluid change interval has been changed to 60K (the '03s are 30K for whatever reason). There are two filters - the "flat" filter is different between the 4x2 and 4x4. The spin-on filter is the same for both.

This is an easy but messy job. Newspaper - lots and lots of newspaper.

I'd change every fluid on that baby. But that is just me.
