Default Exhaust Questions for my 2008 4.7 6SPD

Just purchased my New to me 2008 Ram. QC RWD BigHorn with the All Too Rare 6spd Manual with....are you ready......8,600 mi. I couldn't be happier! I searched for almost 2 years for the manual. Had to fly to get it and drive her home almost 1,800 miles but I smiled the whole damn way! And at 21 MPG through the hills of Virginia, I am not about to complain.

Now on to the question at hand....I have an Aero AT3030 that was meant for my "98" 5.9 and I never installed it. So, I made an appt. next week for an install. Where do you guys usually install your mufflers? I was thinking just about behind the cab. It will be a single out right to the original tail pipe. I will most likely leave the resinator in. In fact I am not even sure where it is located on the original exhaust. I also inquired about replacing the Y-Pipe as I ve seen suggested here. They werent that interested in the job. Quoted me around a grand saying nothing was available. I mention Magnaflow...they made a call and said nothing was available for that motor. They also told me I would have to replace the cats...thats when I knew something was wrong. I see the Magnaflow Transition Y for $30 on line. Is that what I need and if so...can some one explain how it is installed. I'm thinking the down pipes are welded into it based on what I can see under the truck. And the cats are above that point, meaning they are not involved??
I appreciate any help!

there jerking you around.I would take it and have the whole thing done by some one else. Imean A GRAND! seriously!?!.I had my exhaust done for $400.It's single in dual out flowmaster. That was including crome tips welded on!. I didn't have the Y pipe done yet. He said he could do that for another $100 or so depending if he had to make one or not. Yes this was an actual muffler shop

I had a quote on going from cherry bomb extreme turned down behind the cab to dual cherry bomb glass packs with an "X" pipe dumped behind the cab, it was 190$ each. But I get mine work at my friends Meineke.

This was a Meineke shop too. I also called Monroe Muffler as well. Got the same business from them. This is pretty much what I went through when I tried to get it done on the 98.

Is there any other mufler shops around your area? This price just seems way to high. I use to take my all my cars/trucks to a whole in the wall shop back in the day.
Hate to ask but did you try any body shops or may be aftermarket shop.

We have Monroe, Midas, Cole, and Meinike, and several small mom and pop shops. But nobody does performance work up here. Welcome To NY! I should have had it done before I left Alabama.

Well it's done....sort of! After some hassle getting a decent exhaust tip, I was able to get the At3030 and the dual tip welded on for $175. It exits between the rear tire and the step bar. I gotta say, I love the sound. Also did an Ebay Intake. I think it may have hurt the MPG a bit, but maybe I just have my foot into it more. As for the Magnaflo Y-Pipe, the guy that did the muffler, wouldnt touch it. He said I would have Check Engine Light issues. I have since talked to 2 other shops. No body wants to touch it.
