Class II to Class III Hitch on new Rams
I've been trying to locate a good Class III hitch so I can use a load-leveling setup (E-Z lift) for towing. Most, (if not all) of the hitches I've found EXCLUDE the Daytonas and any Ram with the rolled bed pan. The factory setup is a round frame-rail to frame-rail tube that comes together in the bumper area for a simple ball hitch. Has anyone succesfully done this change, and if so, where did you find the parts?
Thanks for your help,
Jer

As far as I know the factory hitch is a Class III/IV hitch. I know my aftermarket bolt-on Mopar hitch is. I also don't fully understand what you're trying to do. I'm guessing that you do have a rollpan and you are looking for the appropriate Class III/IV hitch?
The factory hitch on the Daytona only allows a ball to be mounted on the bumper(Class II). In order to run an EZ-lift setup you have to have a proper 2 inch by 2 inch receiver (Class III). The problem is, the roll pan covers the area where the standard receiver would be located on the hitches that I have found. I'm looking for a hitch that mounts the receiver a few inches lower so I can avoid cutting/mutilating/removing all or part of the roll pan. Towing will only be done a handful of times a year, so thats why I opted for a more street-friendly version of the Ram. I've looked at Draw-tite and Reese websites, and unless I missed something, their products do not work on the Daytona without doing surgery on the roll pan. Maybe Dodge has a solution, but I haven't been able to find a factory parts website other than the hats and jacket ones. Thanks for the response, and maybe this clarifies what I'm trying to accomplish.
Try going to a custom hitch place. I had a Honda civic with a class III on it. For towing a sea-doo. The receiver was custom made and welded on up under the bumper. The slider went up into it and formed a V shape where it came out with the ball. No cuts at all in the bumper. Worked wonderfully.
If you're anywhere near Santa Clarita, CA, the place that did it is called Accurate Trailer Hitch http://www.accuratetrailerhitch.com

Yes, you will need to go to a custom hitch from a supplier/installer, if Chrysler doesn't have a bolt-on available. Check with a Dodge dealer, first. They'd LOVE to sell you something!
All the best.
All the best.
I have a Daytona and purchased the Mopar Hitch Reciever (PN: 82207911) and didn't have to modify the roll pan at all. I did have to disconnect the roll pan in order to install the receiver. But it works without any modifications.
