Turbo Spools up when stopping
Hello Guys / Gals,
I have an issue with my sons 07 Ram 3500 DRW 4x4 with a 5.9L HO Cummins. When he goes to take off (from 0m/h) it is very sluggish until the turbo spools up (usually about 10-15m/h) then it is OK. Also when he is stopping (applying brake only) he gets to about 5-10m/h and the turbo starts spooling up (engine revs) but only in a forward or reverse, but will settle down to normal idle when it is put in Park or Neutral.
It is stock w/ exception of a new AFE Cold Air Intake that he put on about a week or two ago.
We took it to a Transmission shop to have the tranny checked out and they pulled two codes: P0107 and P0073 but everything else checked out OK. I have already replaced the MAP Sensor (P0107) but it did not make any improvements. Going to replace the Ambient Air Sensor later today.
Any Ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The turbo doesn't rev the engine, the engine spools the turbo. The turbo is driven by exhaust gasses. Many, many years ago, there was a function in gas engines that would slightly raise rpm as a vehicle came to a stop. I don't know if that applied to diesels (there weren't many back then).

Seems like the engine is surging when you are stopping.
When I had my 5.9 I had a sluggish start. Problem was fuel rail. One of my injectors was clogged and this caused a surging which would sometimes spool the turbo and start sluggish.
Have someone check out the injectors and the fuel pump.
