looking to add higher gears to 04 ram 1500 4x4
going from 3.55 to 4.56 with my 35in tires is the best mod ive done so far. If you do any kind of towing or drive in the mountains, the difference is night and day. +1 on the search function, there are alot of threads on this subject.
I suspect your buddy had 3.55s. You can conduct the experiment for us: do 10 dyno pulls and 20 strip runs with your current setup, then spend $1,200 or so putting in 4.10s. After they're broken-in, do 10 more dyno pulls and 20 strip runs, then post up the results. Since the change from 3.92 to 4.10 is only 4.6%, I suspect that $1,200 would have been better spent on 4.56s.
I found the parts for 4.56's gears for about 150$ then x2 as both axels will need them since its a 4x4 so parts will be around 300$ how much would a mechanic take to put them in? because if its going to run me over 1200$ im thinking I wont do it (haha a whole lot of other things i'd rather put in the truck)
Ditto that. You're probably looking at $600 or so for each axle. I'd like to put 4.10s in mine, but can't justify the expense. It jumps well enough and get ~15 mpg at 80 mph.
