airbag light on
i had circuit city put in a 4 channel amp and they had a few problems but the amp is in but they cut one of the wrong wires. now my airbag light is on and my passenger seatbelt wont retract or come out its just stuck he said he heard a pop and smelt a sulfer like smell. it is going to be covered by circuit city but what could it be my truck is a 2003 ram qc could it be a passive restraint system to hold you in the seat when your airbags go off or something more serious. any response would really help cause now i have to wait until monday or tuesday till the call dodge and find out what it is.
The truck should have a passenger side seatbelt pre-tensioner that actually tightens up the slack in the belt in the event of a crash. The wire that was cut probably had something to do with the pre-tensioner. I'm sure its fixxed by now, but I'd double check VIA the OBD II port if that pre-tensioner is working. It's pretty important that it is working properly because it will delay the deployment of the airbag on the passenger side.
thanks for the info and no its still not fixed they have to call dodge and have it fixed. i told them i still have the bumper to bumper warrenty but i dont think it is gonna cover this. i just hope it wont take 2 weeks till it is fixed.
It does sound like the seat belt pre-tensioner. If this is what happenned the seat belt will have to be replaced. You also need to find out what wire was damaged when this happened and replaced the wiring involved. I wouldn't settle for patching the harness on a airbag circuit.
I agree with tenntech. You can't patch up a safety circuit and still have peace of mind. Another fine example why circuit city and others will NEVER work on my truck. I only let a TRUE audio store do my work (if I ever get any done).
