Help- Brake/ABS warning lamp
Hello,
I hope one of you can help me, I recently bought an '03 Ram QC 4X4.
Exactly one month after picking it up the brake and ABS warning lamp on the dash came on, the speedo immediately dropped to zero and my average fuel milage (computer) said 6.2 MPG.
Has anyone ever seen this problem, have any idea what went wrong and how do I TCO the problem? I dont have access to an OBD II reader..... I'm tempted to bring it back to the dealer but I'd like to know the cause either way.
Thanks

It really could be a multitude of thing on an abs system. when you mentioned the speedo dropping to zero it immeadatly made me think speed sensor which is a major part of the abs system which helps determine pressure needed during braking.
I'd definitely look at the Wheel Speed Sensor. They can get water and crap in them. Also, if the brakes were improperly serviced and the brake fluid was forced back into the system and can mess with some stuff. With what you mentioned, I'd opt for the stealership or a factory trained tech look at it.
hey does anybody know anything about the so called "self adjusting rear brakes 'drums' " well i put a new spring hardware kit on and new shoes and tried to drive in reverse and slam on the brakes all that and they wont adjust is there any way to adjust them to get them working. its a 2000 neon with only 60k so they should work but i have no idea please some1 help me??? thanks
You should not have to worry about any of that, you said you bought it a month ago right? That should be covered under the lemon law, you should be able to bring it back to wherever you bought it and they should fix it at no expense. This kind of thing happened to me before, after i bought my truck, just brought it back and they fixed it for free.

It was the speed sensor located on the rear diff. $25.00 part that I coulda replaced myself, but I figured since the truck was only a month old I'd let the dealer worry about it. Cost was ZILCH!
I have a 02 dodge ram, I am having the same problem, it only occurs periodically although it is a aggrivation more than a problem. It usually happens right when I have come to a complete stop, both the brake light and ABS light come on. I am going to replace the sensor and see if I am as lucky.

. And my wife thinks I don't...
