Unhappy drive train problems.... truck won't move

was driving home last night and heard a clunk! now my truck will not move in any gear, but makes a horrible clunking noise. I looked underneath and the axle is still in place, as well as u joints. I drove it home the rest of the way in 4wd, and it worked fine, pulled into driveway and put it into 2wd and it immediately started clunking again and would go into park but the truck would roll down the drive with no hesitation........ any ideas as to what I could be dealing with here?

sounds like you may have a rear ujoint in a bind. The u joint may have broken and has the drive shaft in a bind. Thats what I would check first.

Pull the rear drive shaft and check the splines on the transfer case output shaft. If those look good, check the yoke on rear diff pinion shaft, somewhere along the line there, something let go.

When you have it in Park and it rolls is the crankshaft turning. If its turning then its the transfer case. If its not turning when the vehicle rolls then rear end is out. I suspect its your transfer case.
