Default whine on 04 hemi,

Hello,
My 04 hemi ram has about 133,000 miles. It has a heck of a whine. Sort of like a power steering whine on an old car or kinda like a blower. As soon as you start it, you can hear it. It will whine in idle if you give it a bit of gas and when accelerating. It gets louder as the RPM's increase as the tranny shifts from one gear to another. It follows the different gears as the tranny shifts from one gear to another. It just whines a steady very noticeable whine as your cruising. At least noticeable to me. I have changed the fluid and both the filters. The old fluid looked great and I did not find any particles of metal or anything in the pan. I DID NOT flush the tranny though as I read that that can screw stuff up if you do not do it correctly. I'm kinda thinkin' I got a torque converter problem. I'm assuming this really sucks. Any other opinions or advice would be great.
Thank you,
Ben

I had a whine like that once. Turned out to be the bearing in the alternator.

Yep.....take the serpentine belt off and see if the whine goes away. If it does..... Alternator/power steering pump/tensioner or idler pulleys.

I've read that same thing on this forum. Duh...I should have remembered that and tried it. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and pray that is all it is. Thank you for not calling me a dummy. Lol.

Ben

Well...go ahead and call me a dummy! You guys were totally on the mark. Took off the belt and no whine at all. Very cool!! OK...now how in the world do you isolate it so you can fix it? 8 freakin' pulleys or whatever you call them. Have to get a new belt too, as the old one split into two pieces. Now I have two skinny belts. Not so good. I feel kinda stupid, but at least my tranny is ok. Thank you guys big time!!
Regards,
Ben

Well if your belt is that far gone, I'd just replace it and the idlers and tensioner pulleys.
You can get all these in a kit.
Start from there.
