2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7l jumped time
sorry but this is my first time posting I hope I'm in the right spot. a couple of months ago on my way home from work my 2002 Dodge Ramwas shaking and wouldn't stay running. I pulled into a parking lot and check the oil which didn't show on the dip stick. I put oil in it and barely got home ( 3 miles). When I wouldhave to idle the truck would shake and try to shut off. I made it home and parked it.
Let me back up. My truck has 130k miles. It has been 'rattling' for several thousand miles and 'ticking' for about 50k miles before that.
Anyhow, it sat for about a month. I checked the oil and it was way over filled. When I added oil to it when it was screwing up it was not even on the stick. I added about 3.5 quarts at that time thinking I was loosing oil but I wanted to get the truck home. The battery died after sitting.
I just bought a battery and put in it to start it and see what was going on. I expected itto shake and not stay running but that didn't happen. It starts up and idles fine. I put it in drive and reverse and it never tried toshut off. It has the loud rattling though just as it did before. I removed the valve covers and found the chains loose especially on the passenger side. I can pull it off the gear. The chain has been rubbing the round piece with the holes in it behind the gear. I bumped the engine till the V8 mark on the driver's side was TDC. The one on the passenger side is at about 11 o'clock. Is it possible that it didn't mess up the valves? IS THIS MOTOR WORTH REPAIRING? I will get the front cover pulled off sometime this week.
