Default What should I do?

Hey folks, new guy here... Just got my first dodge truck, or my first truck for that matter at all.. had a Ford Taurus SHO the v8 model before this that I cared for meticulously. My truck I just got came with a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty on it from the dealership I got it from... Now in order for that to stay in tact, I have to keep receipts of all service work etc... including oil changes... changing my own oil is one thing I liked to do myself as you can't really find someplace that uses k&n filters and mobil 1 oil... most of them just use valvoline or something even cheaper. Any suggestions on a way to get around this? I'd really like to change my own oil but am worried that without records from a registered service shop that they would void the warranty on me. I've almost considered paying to have the oil changed, then going home and changing it again myself. Surely theres a better way... suggestions?

If the specific warranty from the dealership REQUIRES a service receipt, then buy the oil and filter to provide the mechanic doing the service. Double check the work when you get home (or before you leave, if you don't trust the place). If the warranty does not require a service receipt, then just keep receipts for all supplies purchased and make sure you keep a log book of service you have done yourself. I would call and verify exactly what is required in order not to void the warranty. You may have to call the actual warranty company to find out this information, as it is third party through your dealership. Make sure you get whatever either the dealership or the warranty writer tells you in writing (with a name) for future reference at the dealership if needed.

Thanks! That sounds like the most logical route. Wasn't sure how that worked theres the jiffy lubes and the walmarts and the valvolines that do the quick oil changes but I supposed if I were to show up at a Midas or something with my own oil and filter I'm sure they'd be ok with using what I provide. If a big chain isn't fine with it I'm sure tons of private shops would do it... Probably cost me about the same thing as if they were to provide the materials but depending on what the warranty company says, I may not have a choice.
