Default TCM Quick Learn after solenoid pack replacement

2006 Ram 1500 Laramie, 5.7L, Auto Trans, 4x4. 130,000 miles. I threw codes P0700 and P0750 earlier today and she went into limp mode. Tried to reset but they come right back as soon as she goes into drive. Did some research here and elsewhere and the solenoid pack seem to be the common culprit. Was think of replacing it and seems pretty straight forward but according to the service manual I would need to do a TCM quick learn following the replacement which requires a scan tool. I assume this scan tool is more than just the cheap code readers you can pick up.

Is there any procedure to do without the scan tool or am I just better off leaving this for the dealer to replace? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the StarScan is a few thousand. Check with a local trans shop and pay them to reset it

Thanks for the reply. So if I understand you correctly, I could replace it in my garage and it would be okay to drive it without the quick learn just to get it to a shop. I would have to look around but I am guessing I am probably looking 10-15 miles tops.

You would most likely be fine BUT I have seen guys lose it on a shorter trip than that. If I was you I would install it and then flat bed it there. For $50 - $75 I wouldn't risk it.

If you don't have any other choice, try to make it as short a trip as possible and baby it until you get the quick learn.

Thanks guys. I think considering the risk, this might be one time to just bite the bullet and let a shop do all of the work.

Not all shops have the capability, make sure ahead of time they have the capability.

I replaced my solenoid pack without doing a quicklearn and have had no issues, its been about 10,000 miles since I did it.

I just took it to the dealer and let them do it. I figured better safe than sorry.
