Default What is the difference between an 04 and an 06 Ram 1500 rear end.

Long story short a dip off the road and the right rear wheel hits a drainage ditch and breaks the axle off clean with the axle tube. The truck is an 04 with the V6 and manual transmission. I've located an 06 rear end very reasonable. If it is minute then I can make a simple change here or there. But if it is 2 inches wider or something along those lines I won't be interested in it... Both are 3.55 gears. Thanks in advance guys. I really appreciate it...

I rolled!!! Such a simple, accurate answer!!

Seriously thanks to all. I found one that a guy had changed out so he would have different gears. Went from the 3:55 to 3:90 something... Drove 110 miles for a 200 dollar complete setup. I'm driving my one ton back and forth to work right now until I can find a dry afternoon to swap them out.
Here is a pic of my ignorance...

A new half shaft and hub or even second hand ones would be another alternative solution.
That way, you would keep your original set up and know its history etc.
Now you can rebuild this damaged one and keep as a spare?
