Details, detail... ode to the details! Thanks for the welcome peeps! I would totally sell it, but it's a work truck, and I'm getting my baby come Christmas, Soooo.. POS is staying.
Mileage: 130,282
Ram 1500, Automatic, Short bed, Regular cab (2-3 seater), 2 door.
Complete tune up done at 128,000 Miles, Platinum spark plus (auto zone), oil change.. oh... don't forget about the new radiator, and "works" (ie. fan clutch, pulley, belt) that I just replaced because of a snapped fan about 2,000 miles ago << Lucky Ducky I wasn't! >>
It's got a lift kit on it for the trailor that is hauled about 1x a month, but nothing major. Stock tires, Stock wheels.
Truck is getting about 7-9 MPG on the streets and 12 Hwy! If I missed anything I'll get back to you all!

Did the complete tune-up include fuel system cleaning? I would service the transmission and differential too if that has not been done. Probably needs to be checked out with a scanner too to see if it running rich. I think these were rated for something like 18 hwy so you are down quite a bit. With that age engine you might not be able to get 18 anymore but you should be able to do better than 12.

Only major issues I see are the platinum spark plugs and the lift/tires.

What SIZE tires are they? Stock should be either 245 or 265/70/17.

When the truck pulls up, i'm going to check out the tire size... they are just average tires... You see I was thinking of slapping a mod into this like a chip or something if they make them?
I can run it to pull up to see what they codes are tossing out tonight, lets see what it says.... He got the smaller engine to save a little on the gas mileage... his bad. Push come to shove- i'm trading in!

Don't waste your money on a $300+ tuner for a V6 Ram...... Not worth it.

You should be getting around 16-18 MPG average unless the previous owner did something stupid to it... or your man has a heavy foot....?

If there isn't a check engine light then I am more inclined to believe that there is a problem with the "driver mod".... lol

Fuel economy issues are nearly impossible to diagnose over the internet, but they usually have to do with the following:

- Bad Spark Plugs (Get rid of those Platinums they are hurting your truck, get Copper Plugs).
- Oxygen Sensor(s) Problem
- Catalytic Converter Problem (or is missing)
- Dirty Throttle Body
- Sub-Par Compression
- Oversized Tires Installed
- Heavy Foot (Driver Mod Needed... lol)
- Transmission Overdrive Problem (not going into over-drive)
- Too much weight in the truck (would take an additional 750#+ to cause that kinda drop not including driver)
- Climate (including Elevation, Terrain Type, Temperature, etc.)
- Lack of Back Pressure (usually caused by over sized aftermarket exhaust or exhaust leak)
- Bad MAP and/or IAT Sensor(s) - Causing incorrect air/fuel ratio mixture (aka running rich)

Those are the most common causes (not in any particular order), but it will be very difficult to diagnose over the web.

Wow---You guys really ROCK---GOOD JOB!

Sounds like everything is pretty well covered. I believe the platinum plugs would not cause that much of a drop, but get everything back to OEM condition to eliminate the possibilities first--and yes, the platinums should go, put the coppers in that came with it from the factory.
