Try resetting the PCM by pulling the negative on the battery, turn on headlamps for a couple seconds (drains any capacitance). reconnect. turn engine to "on" without starting, may hear a "ding" then startup. There are neutral rev limiters built in to these, and it may also be in some sort of limp mode. Before you do the reset, may want to get the computer scanned for any trouble codes that may exist, as that can give a clue as to what direction to go.

Seems like that would be a clogged cat to me.
That is the common engine speed where the clog will stop it.

Seems reasonable, Itll rev up to like 4 then back down to 3500 and just sit there. How would I find out if its clogged?

By the way thanks for the help guys!

There is a exhaust pressure test that can be done. You measure the PSI in front of the cat(s). If the pressure goes to high then you either have a clogged cat or exhaust.

Had my mechanic look at it today, he did a temperature test and reckons clogged cat. I'm thinking of going catless as I live in a county thats emission exempt, I know its illegal, but what are the thoughts on this?

Also - GFchips tuners? Are they legit?

Thanks in advance!

If you can find someone that will do it. You might also run into problems in the future with mechanic working on anything close to your exhaust. Not to mention that if you sell it you are potentially screwing the buyer. You can get high flow cats so its not really much of a performance reason but a money savings reason I guess.
