Default spare tire removal

So I'm trying to remove my spare tire, and I find I bought a truck wihtout a jack or the tools to lower it.

My google-fu shows that I can use a 9/16 socket on the winch nut to lower the spare - but I can't get a 9/16 socket in due to the tube that encloses everything.

Anyone got an idea to get my spare down? Or to remove that cylinder so I can get my socket to the nut?

I don't care if a suggestion damages the winch - the spare will go in my garage and stay there once down and the winch will be removed, shot at close range, buried in a shallow grave and urinated upon - I've been at this for several days now and am frustrated.

When I bought my Gen II, it had no jack or tool kit. I bought one at a pic 'n' pull for $25.

I use a socket set with the extenders and a drill (lower and raise within sec). My truck didn't have the jack kit either. I had to buy a breaker bar to keep in the cab to lower it in the field.

You can buy each and every single part of the kit brand new for not too much $... Except for the Jack.... for the Jack I would just get this:

Hope that helps....

$35 for a wrench? $23 for the extenders. Man, I don't know what is cheap to you, but that is not. plus it will probably be $50 for shipping.

All the stuff i use was maybe less than $5 at the local hardware store. If anything, a local junkyard might be cheaper.

If you put that spare in the garage you can bet that ol'e Murph will come knocking when you are about 100 miles away. LOL!

What's the difference? Either the spare is in the garage and the wife can bring it to me 100 miles away, or it sits useless under the bed laughing at me. At least with it in the garage there is a chance it could be useful.

On my 2500 its a 1/2 square. At home I put the female end of a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter then a long extension followed by a 3/8 hex socket which I put directly in my cordless drill. The 3/8 hex socket set from harbor freight goes up to 10mm so you can use a socket if you want on it too. My truck came with the jack but no lug wrench or extension. I keep a socket set and torque wrench under the rear seat of my truck all the time.
