Default Question for you guys

Ok, i have a 05 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. has 91,000 miles on it and tranny fluid never was changed, would changing it with this amount of miles be doing more harm or should i leave it be? bought it with 42,000 back in 2010 and assumed it wasnt changed.no issues as of now.. thanks guys.. also i've been adding marvel mysterial into the fuel for the past year or so everytime i get fuel... hopefully it's paying off in someway....

Yes, you are past due. Drop the pan, drain and replace filters now. Then do it all again in a few thousand miles. It really is cheap insurance, even buying $9/qt ATF4.

There are some who would say, at that point, best to leave it alone. If it doesn't smell burned, and you have no issues.....Regular maintenance would have been best, but you may stir up trouble messing with it now. I would let sleeping dogs lie. Too many times I have heard of high mileage vehicles with no issues having trans service, and within a couple hundred miles all of a sudden their trans is acting up. My friend has a 06 with 172,000 miles and has never touched the transmission. You could call that stupid, but I can't tell him to have it serviced, because his fluid is still cherry red, and, stirring up the pot can't lead to anything good... at that point.

My take on this is DO NOT do a flush. When I see people who had no transmission issues start to have them after an oil change is after flushing or purging ALL fluid from the system.

I would drop the pan, replace the filters and add enough new fluid to bring it up to full.

I do this every 50k miles and have NEVER had a transmission issue in any vehicle I've ever owned...

Drain it, new filters (both of them), and refill it. At this point a change would do you good but a flush might just cause issues due to the long interval that the fluid has been in service.

Filter change is easy, only about 10 minutes added to the job. Make sure you get good filters to eliminate drain back into the pan with the engine off

OK, I'm going to change tranny fluid this week, just seems like it lags, 2,200 rpm until hits 1 to second for example. Rpm's are somewhat high until it shifts.now when I do this fluid change,iIl just unbolt the bolts and let the fluid pretty much go flow out? No drain plug I guess in the 05 hemi?

I assume the filters are directly Behind the pan? Do they pop out pretty easy? Rvt it and then just bolt it back in place? I don't have a torque wrench so can I just tighten them snug but not to much? This is my only transportation and I have get it done that day.

Any info would be appricated, can I get the filters at auto zone? How many quarts will I need? Thanks guys.

Try this. Granted, it's for a full flush, but hopefully it might help give a little SA.
