Default Front brake dust shields

My 03 4x4 front brake dust shields, the thin metal plate behind the calipers are rotted out.
Question.....are these really necessary or are they ok to just junk?
I have to special order these in the UK, so read here EXPENSIVE lol.

Even if you get them changing them requires removal and reinstall of the hub assembly. At your age of truck hopefully they come out undamaged.

SRT-10's don't even use them on the oversize brakes they have up front. It's more of a nice to have than a requirement. As stated, you have to pull the hubs to replace them. I'd say wait until you have to replace the hubs, maybe you find a deal on some used ones to save you some $$.

This one says they ship worldwide, might be worth looking into: http://www.ebay.com/itm/03-08-DODGE-RAM-1500-2500-3500-NEW-BRAKE-DUST-SHIELD-LEFT-FRONT-COVER-MOPAR-OEM-/330995514687?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d10debd3f&vxp=mtr

Many vehicles out there on the road do not come with them, especially most exotic cars. You will be fine without them

Cheers for the help guys.
I have to replace my drivers side hub bearing as it's really growling now on right turns.
I'm replacing both sides of course and I know from past brake jobs, that the dust shields are junk and rotten lol.
I'll not bother to replace them.
Cheers.

Ive had them off for about 15k miles on mine. In that time its seen a lot of offroading (sand mud snow water) and I havent noticed a single problem. Youll be perfectly fine without em.
