Default noise at 19mph

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 mega cab 5.9 diesel. When I am braking and get to right about 19mph, I hear a clunking sound. It only does this when I get down to and right at 19mph. There is no noise when accelerating or anything else. I seems to happen when I get above 30mph and then brake. Everytime when I get to 19mph while braking I hear the same noise. Any idea what this may be? No warning lights on in the truck(ABS etc). I had the truck in for service about 6 months ago to replace the front wheel bearing assembly on the passenger side and they told me the brakes still had half life left.

Are you braking slowing and getting some kind of engine downshifting at that speed. Are you seeing the RPM rise at the same time as the sound. If that is the case you might have excessive slop in the driveline.

I would like to add one important thing. I noticed if I shift into neutral when beginning to brake, there is no noise at 19pmh as stated above. It onlu makes this noise when it is in gear and braking.

Sounds a lot like a u-joint or cv joint like Gone Fishin said, even more so now

I'd check the u-joint at the tranny first

I tried turning the overdrive off and tested it again. No clunking sound with the overdrive off.

I think what you are hearing is normal.

As you slow down, the torque converter locks up causing any free wheeling component to become taught. This is likely the clunk you are referring to and is why it happens at the same exact speed and why you don't hear it with O/D off.

I think you just weren't paying attention. Usually the case...

I constantly get into peoples cars and pick them apart with random noises the owners have never heard before, then weeks after, they tell me how much they hate me because that noise is all they hear now and that I must have done something to their car..lol

You may have a legit problem with u-joints etc, unless it's fairly loud and can be heard with the radio on a low volume, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
