Default Whine!

07 Hemi Ram 4x4 wondering if anybody has come across this whine I am getting, at Idle nothing when I put into gear I am getting a whining sound almost sounds like a turbo or super charger whine, increases and decreases with rpm, tranny was serviced 30000kms ago fluid level is good, tranny seems to shift fine. It is not super loud but is starting to bother me anybody come across this before?

Change your belt. worked for me. The load of the engine stressed my belt out because my truck just sits.

You can buy a mechanics stethoscope for pretty cheap to listen for bearing whine from a pulley, alternator..etc

Check your power steering fluid as well.

Better still.....before buying a belt, pull it off. Fire up the truck then see if the sound has gone.
Don't do this for long, as your water pump will not be turning. But at least this will tell you if the issue is with the engine turning something.....such as the water pump, alternator power steering pump or tension/idlers.
If the sounds still there....you'll have to look elsewhere.

Mine had the same thing. It was the Alt bearing whining. I traded the truck at 132k. Still had the original alt.
