Question Use a 4x2 rear end in a 4x4?

Hello everyone my rear end decided to crap out (it's an open diff.) and I was wondering are there any differences between the 4x2 and 4x4 3.92 rear ends? Are they interchangeable?

Others have done it. I think there is a plate on the 4x4 axle housing maybe the spring plates are at slightly different angles so the drivetrain lines up better.

I have a 05 2 wheel drive rear diff in my 03 4 wheel drive. The 2wd rear diff is missing the stop plate welded onto the axle housing, which makes contact with the rubber bump stop mounted on the truck frame. This was not a concern for me as I have air bags.
