Default Transmission Issue. Not getting into gear!

I put my truck into 4hi and did not go into 4x4. So I tried 4low and the gear when forward and is very loose. Will not shift out of 4 low and now I tried to reverse and all gears and no movement. I put it back into park and hear a grinding noise. Truck will not move at all and don't know what it is so if anyone can help please give me info. This is my first dodge truck and it has a hemi and love this truck. Hate to see it down.

what year? there's stick on the floor pre-06 and push button 06+ that are different.

Have you read the owners manual?

Generally it takes 20ft or so to engage. The wheels need to make 1 or 2 revolutions before engaging.
You may have a t-case sensor problem.

it's a 2004. My truck will no move at all. My 4x4 stick will move freely back and fourth so it will not disengage. When I put it back in park it makes a grinding noise

Your 4wd selector is probably disconnected. It seems to be a common problem.
