Default This is NOT an Oil Thread

Hey everyone....it's been awhile....which translates into "my truck is running great".

I do have a question, though, regarding the oil change monitor.

I do synthetic engine oil changes every 10,000kms or 6000 miles.

The monitor came on this time at 3200kms or 2000 miles.

To me...it always comes on WAY too early.....it never makes it to 6000 miles.

I don't drive it hard although I do occasionally pull a 2000lb trailer.

Could be wrong, but the monitor is probably based on conventional oil. Nice to have a reminder, but only you know your vehicle history and usage.

Good point. I didn't think of that. I guess I assumed it was syn because everything else in the truck is syn.

It is also based on driving habits. If you do a lot of highway miles with less stop and go like in a city, and little to no towing, etc, then it will take longer for the reminder to come on.

As I recall 2008 was the first or second year that oil reminder was out. I seem to remember a software update to squash it down a bit. Anyway, just ignore it and reset it if you're not ready.

Yes...I figured that but I guess my observations were based on what I did with the truck since the last oil change. Wasn't much, really.

If I worked it REALLY hard I guess the monitor would have me change it at 2000 miles.

Well...that's what I have done. I also committed the page in the manual that the simple instructions are on. Page 196.

Funny....I'll remember that but not "step 3 times on the gas pedal within 10 seconds".

The oil pressure gauge has always been steady but I decided to do STEP 1 of idiot troubleshooting and found I was down about 1/2 liter of engine oil.

Does a low oil situation trigger the oil change monitor?
