Default P0440 code help

I know what the code is, EVAP performance etc. However, what is the common fix besides the gas cap? I already changed out the hoses on the canister also. Would it be the purge valve, leak detection pump, or the whole canister? Basically, what is the common failure on these trucks. I really don't want to be throwing money around replacing everything.

BTW, taking it to a shop is not an option. Shops around here like to take advantage and will replace everything to fix a $20 part.

Just to rant, It pisses me off how they will fail your smog test for an EVAP code. Yea it reduces the amount of fuel vapor into the air, but once you pull the cap to fill up at the station, your letting out fuel vapors anyway.

Well, I'm ordering a new leak detection pump along with an OEM gas cap. Hopefully that fixes it. That seems to be the most common fix for the P0440 code according to other forums.

FYI, if your getting the P0440 code, and you replaced the canister hoses and the fuel cap, its the leak detection pump that is the culprit.

Rock auto sells them for around $25. cheap and simple fix!
