Whos Running Hemi w/ Borla Cat Back?
My dealer is chock full of atermarket parts and one thing they are selling is a Borla cat-back exhaust system, the one that has two exhaust tips, one has Dodge engraved on it, the has Borla engraved on it. The system is selling for $560.00. I'm running the Mopar CAI now and have been told by the parts dept manager that if I went with the exhaust (1) it would be a totally different truck and (2) with it and the CAI, I will get 5-8 MPG increase in fuel economy. I tend to not believe the latter but what do I know. Who else has this exhuast setup? Is it annoyingly loud inside the cab, outside, etc? I used to have a Flowmaster Delta 50/Rusty's cat-back exhaust system on my '98 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 4.0L I6 and it was the most annoying sound you can imagine. Severe drone in the cab at highway speeds, annoying exhaust note at startup, etc. I eventually switched to a Magnaflow oversized muffler and the drone was cut down quite a bit but I still couldn't take it and my wife flat out hated it. She hated it so much, she laid out the edict that I wouldn't be doing that with my truck.
I will say I'm a sucker for a well breathing, growling V8 and my Hemi has all that potential, it's already shining through under the hood when I stuff the pedal with the CAI but I fear I dump the $560+ to have it put in, I'm going to have one unhappy significant other.

I had the Borla system on my 05(which was recently totalled) and I loved it. When the truck was idling it wasn't much louder than stock. When you stepped on it to leave the stop light it had a fantastic deep tone that even my wife was thrilled to hear. You can definitely be going down the road and have normal conversations. A lot of people will say this system is way too quiet, but I wasn't out to get the noisiest exhaust. If you do want something a bit louder, Magnaflow seems to get the highest ranking on this site. However, from your post, I recommend getting the Borla. Hope this helps and good luck.
The Borla exhaust is a bit louder than stock, but in a GOOD way. The exhaust note is throatier (sp?) but not in an intrusive kind of way. The beauty of the system is the positively awesome exhaust note when ya jump on the throttle. As you can see in my signature, I run the Borla and the Mopar CAI. Performance is clearly better with this setup, and the sound will take you back to the days of old to the old interceptors. As for the mileage increase, someone is pulling your leg. You may want to use that in your salespitch to the wife, but the truth is, you will find yourself romping the throttle a lot more often because of how incredible it sounds. In actuality my mileage increased MAYBE a few ticks, but nowhere near the 5-8 mpg that they are leading you to believe. From a few 50 mile freeway runs using cruise control set at 62mph, and the tailgate down, the onboard computer posted average mpg as high as 23.4, but remember, in order to get there, you have to drive with eggshells under your right foot. (Driving with the aforementioned eggshells requires discipline that I cant seem to muster) My truck is currently averaging mid to high 13's in a mix of freeway and city driving, and that includes the occasional (or perhaps more than occasional) smile-inducing jack rabbit starts when someone next to me inquires if "that thing have a hemi?"
I give a solid two thumbs up to the Borla, but keep in mind, don't expect your gas tank to overflow after you install it.

I have the 05 Daytona, it came with the Borla duel tips and it sounds sweet. Not to loud justa mild deep tone at 1600rpms. From what I've seen on alot of posts if you add a CAI it will make it a tad louder and deeper.
I figured the 5-8 MPG increase was a load, taking advantage of the current fuel price woes we all suffer from. I think after I scrape up the money for my tonneau cover, my next savings will be for the exhaust. Thanks everyone.
tHE borla / mopar sYSTEM IS AWESOME, AND IT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE if you stand on the side of the road and let someone get on it while driving by you
Here is my post on it on dodge talk forums .......
FYI for anyone wondering, because I tried to research this myself on the forums. It was mentioned by one person in a similair post.
The Borla system that comes stock on the Daytona has always been thought to be identical to the system that can be ordered thru MOPAR. Well between myself and father and brother we have 3 - 2005 RAM HEMI's; mine is a Daytona. My father just bought the MOPAR/BORLA system for his truck, and at first glance it appeared identical, BUT after installing his and driving in it I liked the sound much better, it is about 20% louder and just sounds more aggresive. Granted his is a std cab, and mine is a Quad cab, but it was more than that especially when standing outside of the truck and having him rev it. So last night I crawled under the both of them and realized the stock DAYTONA muffler was 3" longer than the MOPAR/BORLA. I swapped out the muffler with the second system we picked up for my brother and it is AWESOME sounding. Now this is always a matter of preference, some may like the tamer stk Daytona muffler, and others like myself may find the louder MOPAR/BORLA system. And there will still be others who want it even louder
Just figured I would share the findings of my research with anyone else who might be interested
